The second highest peak in the Indian Himalayas and touted by many as one of the most beautiful peaks in the world. The trek is through the Jauher valley the center of ancient Indo Tibetan trade route. At 2290m Munsiyari is on the arterial water body of the Goriganga, which emerges from the Milam glacier system of the eastern flanks of the Nandadevi sanctuary, fed also by the Kalaband glacier and Panchchuli from the east. The Jauher valley is on the outer rim of the Nanda devi sanctuary. Apart from the spectacular views of the famous peaks such as the Nanda devi and Nanda kot, the trek is along the river Gori Ganga through ancient villages and rolling grassy meadows.

The Martoli village, one of the centers of the Jauher valley, represents the ruins of the history of the Indo – Tibetan trade. Milam Glacier is about 28 km long, biggest glacier of the Kumaon Himalaya . It originates from the slope of Kohli and Trishul peaks and situated on the south facing slope of the main Himalayan range. Milam Village which is located near the glacier is one of the highest villages in the Himalayan range. Munsyari is the base for the trek route leading to Base of East Nanda Devi & Milam glacier.

Outline Day to Day Itinerary:

  • Day 01:Arrival Delhi
  • Day 02:Arriva Kathgodam & Drive To Loharkhet
  • Day 03:Loharkhet – Kharkiya ( 5 HRS BY JEEP ) & TREK TO KHATI (5 kms, 2 hrs)
  • Day 04:Khati – Dwali (2575 M/8498 FT)
  • Day 05:Dwali – Phurkta (14300 FT) TO PINDARI CAMP SITE 3660 MTS (12,000 feet).
  • Day 06:PINDARI GLACIER CAMP – DWALI
  • Day 07:Bagubassa – Roopkund (4450 mts/14600 ft) – Bedni Bugyal (7-8 hrs)
  • Day 08:Bedni Bugyal – Wan (10 km/ 3-4 hrs) – Rudraprayag
  • Day 09:Rudraprayag – Haridwar – Delhi
  • Day 10:Delhi – Departure

Detail Itinerary

  • Day 01:Delhi – Kathgodam (300 kms by train)Board Ranikhet Express for Kathgodam from Old Delhi railway station to reach Kathgodam early next morning . Overnight journey.
  • Day 02:Kathgodam – Almora – Munsyari (2290 mts/7512 ft) 300 kms/8-9 hrs:Upon arrival at Kathgodam drive to Munsyari via Almora. On arrival check in to hotel for overnight stay.
  • Day 03:Munsiyari – LilamFrom Munsiyari it takes 1 hours to reach Selapani by jeep . The trail from Selapani descends to the village of Darkot.From Darkot the trail descends further to the Gori Ganga and continues along the river to the village of Jimigad. Further the trail starts descent to the Gori Ganga. Continue descending until we reach the River at Jimighat. This is the lowest point of the trail and from here we start climbing to Lilam. Overnight at tent.
  • Day 04:Lilam – BugdyarAfter 5 kms we will cross the confluence of Ralam River and Gori Ganga on the way to Bugdyar. The trail consisting with Gradual ascending and some ups and downs through scenic meadows and shepherd pasture. The flocks of sheep and goats are a common sight at the meadows of Bugdiar .Overnight stay in tents.Overnight in Tents.
  • Day 05:Bugdyar – MartoliWe continue trekking along the Gori Ganga through series of narrow gorges through gradual ascending via village Railkot 3100m. Martoli has very old history as people used to trade with Tibet in old times. But now a deserted village which is slowly coming forward to house a few due to trekkers and climbers who likes to spend weeks, months here. A high plateau of grassy fields situated at 3430m. Distance covered is 14 km. Overnight in Tents.
  • Day 06:Martoli – Milam (3450 m/11316 ft) (11kms/5-6 hrs):The trail from Martoli descends steeply to the bridge over Lwan gad through series of narrow gorges . After this the trail is gradual and takes you to the village of Belju, overlooking Ganghar and Pachu valley on the opposite end. The view of Nanda Devi and Nanda Devi east peaks is amazing from here. The valley is wide and open as you can see Milam village and the Hardeol peak towering high in front of you. Trekking further you will see the confluence of Gori Ganga and river from Utha Dhura. The trail continues to a bridge and a climb brings you to the village of Milam.
  • Day 07:Milam – Milam Glacier – Milam (6 kms /3-4 hrs)The early morning trek start through the deserted houses of Milam Village. On arrival explore the glacier; which is the longes in Kumaon . The magnificent Rishi Parvat (6692 M), Hardeol (7151 M) and Trishuli I (7074 M). looming over the glacier . Back to Milam village to spent the night with the historic settlements at Milam.
  • Day 08:Milam – MartoliThe trek from Milam to Martoli village is an easy trail passing through the village of Belju and Burfu.Later a steep ascend from Lwan gad to reach the village of Martoli.
  • Day 09:Martoli – Lwani (13 kms/5-6 hrs)The trek starts on the true right of the valley with the excellent views of Nanda Devi East and Nanda Devi dominating the horizon. The trail goes past beautiful meadows with a descend to side stream followed by a ascend to the deserted settlement at Lwani. Overnight in the tents.
  • Day 10:Lwani – Nanda Devi East Base Camp (4150 m/13612 ft) (13kms/5-6 hrs )Today the trek to Nanda Devi East Base is bit strenuous and cautious stepping is required. Though the terrain is beautiful and scenery is brilliant as the trail passes through a series of moraine fields and famous meadows of Sartol Kharak (3650 M) and Naspanpatti (3850 M).Overnight in the tents.
  • Day 11:Nanda Devi East Base Camp – Nanda Devi East (3 kms one side/3-4 hrs) In the morning we will set out towards Nanda Devi east to explore the area and return back to the base camp. Overnight in the tents.
  • Day 12:Nanda Devi East Base Camp – Martoli (3430 m/11250 ft) (14 kms/5-6 hrs) This day an early start is mandatory. Though the trek to the village of Martoli is easy going descend but high attention is required throughout the hike. Arrive Martoli and overnight in the tents.
  • Day 13:Martoli – Bugdiar (2500 m/8200 ft) (13 kms/4-5 hrs)Once again it is mandatory to start very early as we have to cover long distance through Railkot, Mapang to reach Bugdiar. Overnight in the tents.
  • Day 14:Bugdiar – Lilam (12 kms/4 hrs)Early morning start through Sunni, Rargadi and Rupshya Bagar brings you to the village of Lilam. Overnight in the tents.
  • Day 15:Lilam – Munsyari (2290 m/7512 ft)The last day of trek to Selapani village takes about 3 hours. From here board a traditional mountain jeep to reach Munsyari. On arrival check into the hotel/guest house. Overnight in the hotel.
  • Day 16:Munsyari – KathgodamEarly morning drive to Kathgodam to catch Ranikhet Express for Delhi . Overnight journey.
  • Day 17:Arrive DelhiArrive at Delhi by morning and departs towards onwards destinaton.
